Christening the new Osprey 465SC - snapper and gurnard on the new Reel Kiwi Fishing rig
It's a new era for Reel Kiwi Fishing. Helping the guys from Osprey we put together something special. The all new 465SC is bigger and better in every way. Wider, roomier, softer ride and all the perks.
Gen and I head out to christen the new Reel Kiwi Fishing rig on one of Auckland's Harbours where we get into some quality snaps and a few tasty carrots for the bin. My first time out in the new rig I was pretty impressed with everything about it. I'm looking forward to many more Reel Kiwi Fishing adventures in it so stay tuned and make sure you subscribe and hit that notification bell so you know when my next video is about to drop.

Kontiki chaos on the 90 Part 2 - more snapper hit the sand as we work for our fish through the day

Stevo and I hit the magical 90mile on the last day of our far north trip. We didn't know what was installed for us but by the end of the day we had worked hard for our fish than usual. Part one we start the day of as planed as the sun rose. There's nothing like setting your first set as the sun rises and the Tasman sea rolls in at your feet. Our first set went out as planned, but the retrieval ...

Kingfish time A good 20yrs ago the boys and I changed over from chasing big snaps to kingfish. We had lost our fishing mojo due to 40yrs plus of constant snapper fishing and decided to see if chasing kings would spice things up. At first we were a little frustrated with it as we didn't get a lot, but venturing out wider and further north we started realising where to find them when jigging or l...
A hard day softbaiting in the north but a nice colorful bin in the end

Our day 3 in the far north saw the winds drop but the fishing got harder. Launching in the Harbour just on day break we made our way along the coastline towards Houhora. We thought we would start the morning off once again flicking a few softies around the wash and shallows like the previous day. We had caught nothing of substantial size snapper wise at places we had caught monsters every time ...

Our 2nd day in the north saw us launching the little Osprey off Rangiputa, The wind had calmed a little more for the morning. It was going to pick up in the arvo but the high cliffs running north of Houhora would give us shelter through the day. The plan was to softbait the wash along this area where we have caught some beauties over the past few seasons. It was great to be out at last in the l...

Mid morning snapper antics of Tokerau - back into the snaps on the surfcasters 🎣 Having had a good snapper bite the previous night before off Tokerau, we decided to come back and see if the hot bite could follow on into the daylight hours. Normally that kind of hot bite happens more so during those darker hours, so it was going to be interesting if the fish were still there with the sun up. We ...

It was time to head north for our annual far north trip where we spend 5-6 days hard out fishing. We mix our days up fishing from the sand or boat depending on what the weather throws at us. A fun solo - bait'n berley bash and a bit of softbaiting on a west coast Harbour.

With a nice weather window during the week I decided to ditch work and head out on the Harbour for a good ole bait'n berley bash. The water temp was still a little warm as I was hoping it had dropped enough for the smaller fish to disperse but it wasn't to be. With a bit of a hard morning on the bait's I switched it up in the arvo to the softies which was a great decision. Kingfish, trevs, carr...

      No I just iki them and just keep my ice in the plastic bag, I don't do an ice slurry I just lay the fish on it - it stays cool in the bin and keeps them fresh.

    • @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
      @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 9 дней назад

      It was a fun day with the Sis 👍 braid does slip a lot easier than mono so you have to make sure you tie a good knot - I normally just use a Uni knot as it ties over its self. I also double my braid so like a loop then tie the knot. Tight lines 🎣

    I used 3 or 4 links of 30mm Chain for casting off the beach ... Lead Moves!! Chain sinks into the sand!! and stays still!! doesn't get snagged easily and costs crap loads less than lead ... for example nearly every parking area at a beach will have 2 posts with 50 odd Chain Sinkers just hanging there waiting to be cut up.

    @ REEL KIWI FISHING ... did you know that the shark you let go today doubles is size and within 3 years you're crowing .. That's the 5th good fish today the sharks got ... only it wasn't The Sharks it was your Pet Shark you let go today. Here's what I used to do when long-lining in the Manakau ... Sharks up to 3 foot long got turned on their backs and the lower jaw was cut off hoping to get the hook back. Sharks over 3 foot long I cut down from the arse to the top of the spine then flipped them over and took all the meat above the spine to the back of the head and I smoked it for dog food. Back in my day we got rid of "the Slimy's" like Rays and Sharks and eels so the next generation could enjoy fishing. It appears the next generation doesn't give a shit and passes it off as being Green or Nice ?

    • @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
      @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 21 день назад

      Yep you just use enough weight to get the bait down and if it's only couple mtrs deep just floating baits. You want that bait to slowly fall in hope it gets hit before reaching the bottom. If it's Rocky and kelpy floating baits is the way. Just add weight if needed if wind is around - very rarely strayline over 1oz most times 1/8 -1/4 upto half oz if needing to get out further or if bit of wind. Find the food you normally find the fish 👍 Great to hear some of the vids are helping you out this is why I do them - to help and inspire... Tight lines

    Would you go trio Rex or surf 8k

    • @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
      @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 23 дня назад

      Hi t42 That's a hard one as the 8k is a great workhorse and purposely built for surfcasting with it's slower oscillation and long spool. The one thing that lets it down a little is the wobble it can get through the stem when on a big fish (some people don't mind it where others do) The TRex has all the bells and whistles and looks sexy and was sitting at the top until the new flite surf came out so it is a good reel. Hope that helps - tight lines

    • @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
      @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 29 дней назад

      Dead low isn't to bad especially if you have that extra person in the boat as you drop them in when launching but not retrieving. If solo not to bad if its not a big tide as it gets muddy on the drop off. You can pull the boat up on the lip and get in but couple hrs before dead low is still alright so you launch it near the drop off... It will give you a good 8hrs fishing when you return a couple hrs out or 6hrs if you want to retrieve on the high...
